Pentecost

Grandma died at a little after seven this morning.  She’d been at the hospice house for the last several days, and they took great care of her, but in the end cancer is just an evil beast.
It’s a beautiful, sunny Sunday morning, and my cousins (her other two granddaughters) are being confirmed today, and it’s [...]

Compliance

Dear Gallbladder Girl (let’s call you GBG for short):
It was lovely to see you in the cafeteria this morning, just after you were discharged from the ER.  (Sometimes surviving night shift just means staying awake long enough to hit the cafeteria at 0600 for a diet coke and blueberry muffin.)
Glad to see that the instructions [...]

Erasmus B. Dragon

Why the lack of new posts?  Nothing particularly interesting is going on (not that that’s stopped me before) so will just update my three readers with the following list of my recent activities:

Whittling away at Mount Washmore, which was originally roughly the size of a Volkswagen Bug (the 60’s model) and is now only one load [...]

Well Babies

Watson and Crick had their “6 month” well visit today.  At the age of seven months and two weeks, but who’s counting?  (Considering they’re gestationally around a week shy of 6 months, I guess it all works out.)
Chloe:

Overheard in the ER

“That docta gave me chlamydia!”
No, ma’am, I can assure you, I didn’t *give* you chlamydia.  Examined you?  Yes.  Diagnosed you?  Yes.  Treated you?  Yes.  And your asshole boyfriend?  Yes.  After hours of listening to the two of you yell at staff, each other, me, security, etc, etc, ad nauseum?  Yes.  But I definitely didn’t give [...]

Happy Mother’s Day

Happy Mother’s Day, to all of you (except those two guys that read one post back in 2004.)  If you’re hoping for a baby (through whatever means) or already have one, it’s your day.  Enjoy it!
This is my first “official” Mother’s Day, and all I can say is that I feel the same way that [...]

Solids

Project Rice Cereal 2009 was a success!
As expected, Emma’s thrilled with the new eats (including stealing the spoon and putting it in her mouth when I wasn’t moving quickly enough,) and Chloe’s a bit guarded (the “yuck” faces, oh my.)  We’ll see how things go when we get to bananas.

Seven Months

I’m writing this a week late.  It’s been busy around here, with Grandma’s illness and Great-Aunt’s move to assisted living, and lots of time in hospitals and doctors’ offices and picking up the slack in a million tiny ways.  It’s good distraction, but still distraction.  I worry that I missed a lot of your seventh [...]

Nicknames

New nicknames: Hivey Rose (Chloe + amoxicillin = rash central), Tenacious E (who knew that she would/could fuss for so long at the absolute horror of being trapped in her carseat?) and the Toothful One (Chloe, first tooth yesterday – right lower incisor.)
