Y’know what’s irritating? When a work friend sets a time to come with her teenage daughter and meet the babies, asks when they can come for months, is apparently v. excited, then doesn’t show, only calling hours later to say they were “stuck” at the mall. And then, days later, sets another time, and stands you [...]

Soooo Big
Posted in Chloe, Emma on February 26, 2009 | 2 Comments »
We had our 4 month well visit today (despite snotty noses) and Emma’s pulled into the lead in size. I knew she wasn’t an eager eater for nothing! They’re also developmentally on target for *actual* age (and well beyond for adjusted) and both gave nice big smiles to Dr. Smiley. Good work, girls!
The stats:
Chloe: 23″, [...]

1) If your child has bilateral ear infections, and you start amoxicillin at bedtime, it’s reasonable to expect that she may still have fever at 4 a.m. We’re not miracle workers, ma’am, and you don’t need to rush back into the ER for that temp of 101. Give her some ibuprofen, maybe a tepid bath, [...]
Obligate Nosebreathers

A whole week since I posted? Shocking.
I explain my absence by the fact that I’ve worked a couple of days, visited the parents at the farm (in Mayberry) for a couple more, and that we’re currently being visited by the Adenovirus from Hell. a.k.a. the SnotMonster. Sucks for the babes, who hate not being able [...]
Work Stories #2

It was one of those hot July nights, when the air outside the ambulance bay doors is still 90 degrees at 2 a.m. and feels like you’ve walked into an oven full of diesel fuel. Fortunately, the hospital air conditioning was working (a little too well, as usual, but better than not at all.)
We were [...]

Sex and Advertising

Two thoughts:
1) Are the makers of Vermont Teddy Bears and PajamaGrams the same people? Because damn if they don’t use the exact same soft-core lameass p0rn angle in their ads. Does this sort of advertising really work on men? I’d be embarrassed to buy their stuff, with these ads. Seriously.

Synagized

The girls went for their Synagis today (RSV prophylaxis) and other than a sore ham apiece they’re doing just fine. On our doc’s scale (the official measure) they’re 10#3 and 10#8 (Emma and Chloe, respectively.) Only one more Synagis in March and we’ll be through the winter! Hurrah!
In other news, Emma is now mobile. I [...]

Back to work tonight (had the weekend off, which I spent with the parents in Mayberry – a surprise trip to let them snuggle the little wombats) and I’m ready to head back. For one thing, if anyone in the ER tries to grab my breast, I can call security.
And now, since the swings are [...]
Work Stories, Part 1
Posted in Work on February 9, 2009 | 7 Comments »
I was just reading my blogroll, and came across a friend’s great work story. She’s a cop, and I was reminded of the ever-present overlap between their typical clientele and ours. This got me thinking about work stories, and how I don’t tell them nearly often enough. And that I’m turning into a mommy blogger. [...]
